For my second project, I did an expose’ of the welfare system and how it affects children. For project three, I want to do something that will make a difference in the lives of the children I observed. I have decided to create a pamphlet to send home with the children that includes tips for maximizing their education. It won’t be anything elaborate, just two pages or so of quick tips with clipart and fun facts.
My goal with this project is to try to carry the values and lessons the children learn at school to their homes. The tips I will include will hopefully encourage parents and their children to be “on the same page” when it comes to matters of education and development.
I think that sending this letter to the parents is a way to raise awareness for those who need to hear it the most. There is a chance that if parents read these simple tips, they will be inspired to spend more time participating and encouraging their child’s education.
Do you have any suggestions about tips or facts to include?
Do you think this will reach the parents on a level that will make a change?
If you were a parent, what would a letter like this need to have in order to catch your attention?

I think this is a great action to take concerning the subject of welfare. It will be important to focus on giving lots of facts that the children can mostly understand so they can become interested and tell their parents. If the children are convinced and ask questions, then the parents will be more concerned because they are more likely to listen to their children rather than just a random student. Also, it is important to include facts rather than just opinions. If I was the parent and my children came to me with these questions then I would be very interested.
ReplyDeleteI agree this is a great topic to discuss. Many parents are oblivious to what their child really thinks. Adding a story about how talking to your child will help them deal with life's challenges might help. Parents like to see concrete material to back-up what is being delivered. Many parents have a difficult time connecting with their children, mention how being more open-minded will help both child and parent. I think this can make a difference in the attitudes of parents if presented well. Making the tips or facts reasonable will catch the readers attention. Parents won't be interested in what your preaching if scaling the side of a building is necessary (not literally). Just put fun facts/tips in there reminding the parent what it was like being a kid.
ReplyDeleteI agree with your chosen topic, and I think that this is a great action to take on welfare. I agree with your thought's to use clip art and fun facts to really catch the child's attention. It will be good to get the children interested in this, because when a parent's child is interested in something, it will spark an interest with them and raise questions. I think you should make sure to include some facts that will answer any questions the parents might be concerned with about the welfare system. I would be very interested if one day my child came to me with these questions.
ReplyDeleteI think this is a great topic and your ideas are right on track. The thought about the clip art and fun facts is a good idea because I think it will get the children and parents attention. Also, I like how you are writting a letter to the parents because it is important for the parents and children, like you said, to be on the "same page". It can also make a difference in the parents attitudes by how the letter is written. In other words, make sure the letter is written with good thought and work.
ReplyDeleteIf I was a parent, I think I would need some type of "pop" or something that would catch my attention. I think you should have something in the letter that will allow the parents to feel inspired and touched.
I think that your idea is wonderful! I do believe that your idea will make a change. Most parents want their children to succeed in life. I think that parents would be thrilled at your desire to educate children on how important education is. After reading you pamphlet, I think that parents will be encouraged to begin discussing educational values with their children, if they have not already begun to do so. Your pamphlet will be a huge eye-opener to some parents. If I were a parent, a letter like this would get my attention if it opened with a question regarding my child’s education that made me fearful for my child’s future, or you can open up with a fact regarding statistics of how many children are affected by the welfare system. I think that the beginning of the letter is most important, because the beginning of the letter will determine if the parent will actually read it or push it off aside like a bill they’re trying to avoid!
