Project #3 possibility...

For my past two projects, the focus has been somewhat of a broad sense concerning women's rights. In the next project I feel like I want my focus to be on the rights granted to everyone by the Constitution and how freely we actually are able to exercise these rights.

WRITER: I want to write about this topic because I feel that if we are to be granted certain rights, we should not be penalized for exercising them (ex: freedom of speech, in some cases). Some are affected more by others, but this topic interest me and I would enjoy writing about it.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this paper is to inform people and make them aware of their limitations. Also, to possibly present new amendments (i.e. drinking age).

I feel that this is an important topic because many people, including myself, bypass things like this and let it go without a fight.

This is still a rough draft and subject to change, so I wanted to see what the feedback from some of you would turn out to be.

Just leave any comments or concerns! Is this a good idea, or do you have any pointers?

  1. I think this is a great project idea because it addresses something many of us could stand to learn more about. It sounds like it would be very interesting. One thing I would say be careful of (unless your chosen genre calls for it) is too much technical legal language. Even though the topic is great, it might tend to get boring/monotonous if the facts aren't balanced out by some more interesting language. That's my opinion, anyway! :)

  2. I think that this has potential to be a very good project. I'm not really sure what your stand is on the drinking age, whether you would like to lower or raise it, but if your arguement is to lower the drinking age you could argue the 26th amendment. Section 1 of the 26th amendment states that,"The right of citizens of the United States, who are eighteen years of age or older, to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of age." You could argue that because the constitution gives us the right to vote at 18 and at that age we are considered legal adults we should have the right to purchase an alcoholic beverage.
