Proposal # 3-Louisiana Wetlands

For my second paper, I wrote about the New Orleans levee system and how it has failed to give the city the protection it needs. My purpose was to convince residents that the wetlands are a better form of hurricane protection and more money should be dedicated to restoring them instead of building new levees. For my third paper, I want to inform people on the simple everyday things they can be doing to help protect our wetlands . I also want to bring some attention to the many organizations out there that are dedicated to raising money for numerous wetland restoration projects. My audience will again be the residents of New Orleans and surrounding areas because they are affected most by this epidemic. I haven't decided on a genre yet and I'm still thinking of changing the purpose of the paper a little depending on how much research i'll be able to come up with.

Any suggestions for a genre?

Do you think the purpose/topic is broad enough?

  1. I think that the paper is a great idea. Being from New Orleans I think that opinions on things that was residents can do to protect the environment that is ultimately protecting us from hurricanes. A genre that you should consider using is doing a letter to the Times-Picayune or a New Orleans magazine. And I am not sure about this but there are many organizations that are out there raising money and trying to get peoples attention about the situation. You could talk about how they pick up christmas trees and put them in the marshes, a certain organization must have come up with that idea. I think that your idea is really good and I think that people would be interested in hearing about it.

  2. Being from New Orleans as well I think focusing on the broad community rather than a specific audience would work well. Filled with such a diverse population I think the simpler, the better. I'm thinking a campaign proposal maybe something like a green project. Trying to capture the attention of residents to do something as simple as recycle or avoid littering. New Orleans is good about getting the whole community involved. having so much culture and diversity, almost any idea is possible.
