Proposal #3:
Topic: Pro-Choice vs. Pro-Life. The deeper truths of the debate.
Genre: ?
Writer: As a nineteen year old at LSU, and also as a woman this topic has become very personal for me and i want to use these characteristics to capture my audience's thoughts and see how they feel.
Audience: Students. I want to reach out to LSU students who take interest in the debate. Students that are pro-choice advocates will better appreciate my thoughts.
Purpose: I want to show all "truths" to my audience about the pro-choice side of things. I want them to have a better understanding of what they really stand for after reading this paper. Not because of the bias i push or what other may think, but that they question the extent of their beliefs.
This is only one option if how i will write project 3. I have left genre open for your ideas. What genre do you think would fit best? What other suggestions for this paper do you have, specifically on purpose? Considering this debate and how most know quite a lot about it, what would catch your attention?

I like what you have because I feel people are very passionate about this debate, especially many people at our age get pregnant and was faced with a decision. I think almost all of us probably know at least one or two people that had to make a pro-choice or pro-life decision about whether or not to have a baby. The only thing I would say is gather people of both sides could get quite heated because many people feel so pasionatly about the issue.
ReplyDeletebecause you're writing on an issue that has been covered by so many people you have to bring up something that will catch our attention, something that hasn't been said before. i dont know what sort of genre you were leaning towards or what you did for your first two projects but bringing something personal into it could help you do this...maybe writing about someone you knew who has been through this and how they came to a decision on what to do?
ReplyDeleteI agree with Elizabeth, that you definitely have to come up with something to catch people's attention. This subject is always under debate and often overlooked by many. I for a fact would not even talk or read about it unless their was something that caught my eye. It is a subject that is always their and never goes away. As a suggestion, maybe come up with a eye-catching billboard or AD. I don't know what would catch my eye on this but I know that every billboard/AD that I have every seen looks the same to me.
ReplyDeleteTo me, the fact that you are wanting to discuss your beliefs on this debate, the genre seems to be leaning towards a persuasive essay. To make this project so that it is not simply an essay however, maybe you could include some kind of survey? As the first post said, many students on campus have probably had some kind of experience with this topic (whether it is personal or through a friend). You could gain a lot of insight by reporting on people's comments and personal stories. Maybe instead of making this an essay, make it some kind of narrative about some woman's choice. This way, your readers will be drawn in a feel invested in the project.
ReplyDeleteWhat genre do you think would fit best?
ReplyDelete--Informative paper with Persuasive Conclusion
What other suggestions for this paper do you have, specifically on purpose?
--Make sure to explain both side of the story. Include why pro-choice is seen as a good thing, but then give the cons of it (you can show your bias through the cons beating the pros).
Considering this debate and how most know quite a lot about it, what would catch your attention?
--Examples with names of raped women that wanted an abortion, put a name to the face and viceversa.
To answer your question about what would catch my attention, I would start off your paper or presentation with a very touching or "attention getter" introduction. It could be a personal story of someone, a powerful article you read, or anything that allows the audience to be interested
ReplyDeleteI think how your audience is towards students is a good idea because I believe alot of students are confused or what to do with the issue of abortion. Also, many students have to go through the decision of whether or not they should have an abortion or not. Therefore, this would be helpful and hopefully insightful.
A persuasion or an informative essay would be good for this topic. With an informative essay, you could have facts about each side of the issue. This could be intersting because the reader can understand both aspects, and then decided for themselves which they feel they agree with. Also, a persuasion would be effective because you could encourage people to do more for the debate and inspire them to share their beliefs with others.
