Topic: The topic that I will use to write my final essay on this semester is the separation of church and state.
Writer: The separation of church and state is a topic that I enjoy researching, and writing about. Having the privilege to learn in public and private schools during my life time has taught me that this issue has become a serious problem. I am a firm believer in God, and I think it s a real problem if we cannot express religion in school, no matter what religion that may be.
Purpose: The purpose of this essay will be able to express to my audience the negative aspects this phrase brings on our country. I have yet to decide who I want my audience to be in this upcoming paper, but I would like to explain to them my personal opinion about the separation of church and state and let the reader come up with his or her own conclusion.
Genre: The genre that I think I will choose is the reflection. I have already written an exploratory, as well as a persuasive. In this paper I think I would like to reflect on all that I have learned about my topic.
I have yet to decide as to who would be the best audience to write my reflection essay toward. Any suggestions as to who I should write my essay to?

maybe you could write to principals or people who are on school boards. they are the ones who have the most control over what is being done in the classrooms so i think they would be a good target. im not sure who your audience was in your other papers so you may have already done something like that...another idea could be parents, they could reflect on how they want religion to be presented to their kids and decide from there where they think the best place would be for them to go to school.
ReplyDeleteMaybe your target audience could be students who attend both private and public schools. Since you have attended a private and public school, you already know how the two differ. You would probably need to pick a grade level so you could drastically narrow your audience. Then you could survey students in the same grade from both schools to see how they feel about the issue and compare the two sides.
ReplyDeleteI definitely agree with Elizabeth in that you could write to School Board members. They are the ones who have the most control on the basic level and I think it would do them a lot of good to hear this issue. Also another possibility is to send this essay as some kind of letter to local churches. Get them to speak to their members about the importance of having religion in education. They can then attend school board meetings and speak up for your cause. Your paper would be a call to action and would encourage people who I imagine would share you beliefs to educate others on this topic.
ReplyDeleteI like the idea for this project. As far as audiences go, the idea about targeting school boards and principles is a good idea, but I also think that teachers would be a good audience, or future teachers. Teachers have more power than people think. If enough teachers came together to protest an issue of allowing freedom of religion, or being able to talk about it I suppose, then I think they could really make a difference. Also, targeting students could also be effective since they are still growing and forming their opinions on matters such as this.
ReplyDeleteFirst off, I relate to you a lot in your writer potion of the proposal.
ReplyDeleteSecond, I think you should write to teachers and give them example on how they can incorporate religion into the classroom without causing problems. Ex: Our Country was founded and deeprooted in Christianinth...Moses 10 Commandment are the 1st Laws...etc.
Accidently hit the post button.
ReplyDeleteI believe if you write teachers, they will be able to make the decision on how they want to teach. Teachers make many decisions on their own, this could be one of them
