LA Wetlands Proposal #3

At this stage in the thrid project I am having trouble deciding in which genre I would like to write. My first paper was an exploratory essay and my second was a satire/parody and argumentative/persuasion. I researched extensively for these first two projects and learned so much about the wetlands and because of the amount of various articles, columns, and scientific essays I have accumulated, my first thought was to write in a reflexive analysis genre for my third essay. It seems the most obvious because after I have discovered so much in the first two essays I could now be able to write strictly for myself and how I feel on such a major issue in the world today. My problem with this genre is that I'm afraid it might come across as a little boring. For my third project I initially wanted to write something of more impact but now I am confused because I am unsure of which genre would have the "aha moment" I am looking for.

Other than reflexive analysis, which genre do you like would best suit my third project? (Remember I want something that leaves an impression on the reader.)

Another thought for my third essay would be to greatly narrow my audience and pick a much smaller issue within the Louisiana wetlands to write about. For example, I could want my audience to be only Louisiana politicians and write about their views on the wetlands. Another group of people could be fisherman who use the wetlands for their sport. Possible sub-topics could how things such as climate change effects the wetlands or only discussing what is currently being done to restore them.

Do you think this is a better way to approach my third project? I really like the defined aspect of writing in this idea, do you agree?

  1. Yes, I think the approach to the more narrow topic is good. Maybe one way to leave an impression on your reader or to make them not "bored" with your paper if you choose to do a reflections, maybe incorporate how the topic relates to them. Having them know this issue is a huge deal and really does/will affect them might make them a little less bored and actually interested. Some people hear this topic and are like eh, it's an issue that won't affect me. They only think it will affect way longer down the road. So maybe in your genre (whichever you choose) sincerely show your readers how it should be a concern to them as well.

  2. Have you considered doing a parody of it? I think it would be quite simply to write a satire/parody on this subject. Explain to the people how great it would be if we didn't have wetlands etc. I always remember topics if i ever saw/heard anything joking about it while deep down it was actually sending a message. For example, the clip of the Prop 8 video that we had to watch, I still remember its true message while still reflecting on how funny it was
