For this project, I'm planning on doing a reflective paper on the research I found from project 1. I'm going to let the audience know what I felt about the articles, what I think I should do about the problems in Haiti, my opinion about the US relationship with Haiti, and what touched me the most. I hope the readers can relate to my views and thoughts on the different issues Haiti faces. I'll explain what I remember most or I enjoyed most and articles that I didn't enjoy and thought were boring. My audience is going to be a group that is interested in helping and becoming more informed about the country Haiti. Also, my audience could be written to college students or adults. I hope that my audience read my annotated bibliography (project 1) before hand, so that they can also reflect on their opinions about the articles. My goal of this paper is to figure out what my true passion and opinion is on the poverty and economic problems in Haiti. Again, the genre will be reflective and hopefully allow the readers to reflect on what their dislikes and interests were from the articles they read.
Do you think this is enough detail for a proposal?
Does the genre allow me to achieve my goals?
Do you think the paper will be interesting enough to write or for the reader to read?

To answer your questions first...
ReplyDeleteI think that a reflective paper would be great if your purpose is to evaluate the information that you researched and reflect upon your thoughts on the topic. If your research led you to want to reflect upon it then it's clearly already interesting enough to write about, which will in turn make an interesting read if your passion for this issue is expressed through the paper.
My questions to you...
I'm interested in hearing your opinions on U.S.-Haiti relations. Have you researched anything about the kidnapping of the Haitian president, President Aristide? This may help you form an opinion on current U.S. relations with Haiti. The media has covered the story as him basically fleeing Haiti but he was actually kidnapped and recently released. I am in no way defending him. Personally, I don't even like the guy but I think that it may be worth questioning why the media has covered the issue in this way.It might also be helpful to look into the reasons why other people believe the relationship between Haiti and the U.S. is the way it is, if you haven't done so, and see if there may be any legitimacy to those claims. Randall Robinson for example believes Haiti is continuing to be punished because of the success of Toussaint L'Overture (the man who led the Haitian Rebellion that abolished slavery in France and the French colonies). Robinson thinks that the U.S. hasn't forgiven Haiti for starting a Revolution that eventually forced the abolishing of slavery in the U.S.
Hope my comments are helpful.
This is a very important topic to be discussed that most people in the addressed audience are not aware of. My parents used to go on mission trips to Haiti every year, and the problems they have experienced and shown me should not go overlooked. I'm glad someone chose to do this.
ReplyDeleteI think that this sounds like a very interesting paper. I have not really been interested in this subject, but I think that it could have potential. I would definitely be interested in the country of Haiti and would love to read a paper on the subject. I think that the reflective essay genre is perfect because there is nothing a person likes more is an opinion. Agree or disagree, Americans love to listen to people's opinions.
ReplyDeleteAnd to agree with a.citizen, I would love to hear more on the issue of the President fleeing/being kidnapped. That is something that could give a twist to your paper because the economy and poverty are important, but how does the president being kidnapped tie into the thoughts of the government?
Yea I think that this topic can be quite interesting, but I think you need to try to constantly keep the reader engaged because they could drift away. I think you have plenty of details for a proposal. You may find you want to concentrate on one particular problem of Haiti while beginning to write your essay. I find this particular interesting cause Haiti is so close to the US and has so many problems. Least I am pretty sure it’s in the Caribbean.
